Children, Horses are Winners on Derby Day
A Kentucky Derby party hosted by the Equine Adoption and Rescue Foundation and Caring Children Clothing Children brought more than 100 guests to the Equine Adoption grounds in western Palm City on Derby Day in May. During the pre-derby festivities, the guests enjoyed hors d’oeuvres, Mint Julips and country music as they raised money for the two nonprofit organizations. Guests also admired the Equine Rescue’s handsome thoroughbreds as they paraded by.
In true Kentucky Derby tradition, glamorous hats bedecked the ladies. However, the Derby Hat Contest was won by a man: Gianni Crescini, whose headgear stood out among the crowd. He sported a straw hat covered in roses with a horse perched atop.
Guests chose their favorite horses to win, place or show. As they watched the derby race projected on a large screen, the cheering in the packed room sounded like a virtual Churchill Downs.
Everyone left a winner, knowing they’d helped the disadvantaged children and rescued horses who will benefit from the event. Nearly $8,000 was raised to support the free clothing and literacy programs of Caring Children Clothing Children and the horses cared for by Equine Rescue.
